このサイトは監視ソフトウェアのBigBrotherについてを扱います．このサイトの情報は追記した部分を除き，2005年のものです．2017年のいまとなっては，BigBrotherよりもXymonがおすすめです．

株式会社スカイホビットが提供しているMonPackでは，BigBrotherからXymonへの移行サービスを行っていましたが，2019年に新規販売停止となりました．
BigBrotherの記事でしたら，ThinkItのBig Brotherによるネットワーク監視を参照されるとよろしいかと思います．
ネットワーク管理ツールです．pingを打つなどのシェルスクリプトの集合体です．
[2014年追記] BigBrotherは非商用版と商用版に分かれていましたが，商用版は販売していたQUEST社がDELL社に売却され，その後にDELL社が販売継続していましたがそれも中止されました．2014年現在は商用版は販売されていません．
[2017年追記] 非商用版も公式サイトは閉じられています．

かつてはbigbrother@freeml.comとの日本語メーリングリストが存在していましたが，廃止になりました．
$BBHOME/LARRDOUTに
Can't locate RRDs.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/rrdto ol/lib/perl /usr/lib/perl5/5 ～～
のようなエラーになり，trendsアイコンが出ない場合は，rrdtoolのディレクトリ(cd /usr/local/rrdtool)で．
make site-perl-install
$BBHOME/LARRDOUTに，
/usr/local/larrd/disk-larrd.pl: STATUS did not find /home/bb/bbvar/rrd ～～
と出るはず．BB画面にtrendsが追加されます．
snmpは，net-snmpとnet-snmp-utilsのふたつのパッケージに分かれています．
ここではyumでインストールしてみます．ここでは手動で入れていますが，デフォルトでは，net-snmpは入っていると思います．
snmpwalkなどのsnmp関連コマンドを実行するには，net-snmp-utilsパッケージも必要です．
# yum install net-snmp
